Narrator
Narrated by Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley, The Ten Commandments is the epic saga of an ordinary man with an extraordinary calling from God Himself to lead His people out of slavery. Depicted with a scope and grandeur made possible by computer-generated animation, this story of the reluctant prophet, Moses, his often unruly followers and his fearsome enemies is told with high adventure, devotion and a gentle sense of humor. |
God
God (Academy Award and Golden Globe Nominee Elliott Gould) has more in store for Moses, and despite his initial resistance and self-doubt, this humble man cannot deny God's command that he lead His Chosen People out of slavery in Egypt to freedom in a bountiful Promised Land. When God first calls out to Moses, the audience doesn't really know what or who it is, but as He talks to Moses one can feel that fatherly love. |
Moses
Moses (Christian Slater) is neither Egyptian or a true prince, and he grows up confused as to his true identity. Eventually exiled from Egypt when he is exposed as a Jew, he is touched by God, and told that he will lead his enslaved Chosen People to the Promised Land. With the hand of God firmly on his shoulder, and with faith as his only weapon, Moses performs miracles, casts down plagues, evades a pursuing Egyptian army, parts the Red Sea and, after forty years of leading the Hebrew Chosen Ones to the Promised Land, is embraced by God and led to a better place. |
Ramses
Standing against Moses and God is Ramses (Alfred Molina), the new Pharaoh who was once Moses' jealous playmate in the old Pharaoh's court. Now he is Moses' enemy, and in opposing the freedom of the Jews, brings God's wrath down upon the Egyptians in the form of plagues, death and the utter annihilation of Ramses' army. |
