Did you hear the one about the lost tomb of Jesus? That archaeological fantasy was given credence by the Discovery Channel this past Sunday night when the cable network aired the program produced by Titanic director James Cameron and filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici.

The claims of the documentary are ridiculous, and serious archaeologists dismissed them quickly. There is no credibility to this claim that a lost tomb was found, complete with the bones of Jesus and his family.

What this spectacle shows is that the major media are all too ready to feature sensationalistic programming aimed to create skepticism about Jesus every Easter season. Is this what they think their viewers really want? Well, if you want archaeology, theology and biblical studies done by the director of Titanic—then this is your documentary.

Real archaeology is not done by publicity-minded media productions timed for the Easter season. This documentary is a titanic disaster.
