You Can Tithe With More Than Your Money

Dan Miller

48Days.com

I have always believed in the principle of monetary tithing and have experienced the blessings and benefits, both in good times and in bad.  But I have also believed in the tithing principle that goes beyond just money.  What if you tithed your time – meaning if you work 40-50 hours a week that you then give 4-5 hours of your time in meaningful service?  In Biblical times, people tithed the actual products they grew or made; I’m confident that we can be more creative in our tithing today than in just writing checks.  Here’s an additional concept from Mark Victor Hansen, co-author of the extremely successful “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series.

Dedicate Yourself to Idea Tithing

Just think what could happen if we all tithed ten percent of our ideas back to the world in ways that would help to create wealth and prosperity for everyone and everything. The possibilities would be extraordinary!

Because we are all unique thinking minds and spirits, each of us has unique capabilities that no one else has or can ever have. If we each decided to create ideas, concepts, plans and solutions, every person and every creature on this planet would benefit.

The great thing about idea tithing is that it’s free. It costs us nothing.  Once we begin to think of just one idea that would benefit the universe, more ideas will follow. Pretty soon each of us will have hundreds of ideas. And our individual ideas, when told to other individuals, will act as a springboard for their ideas. We will inspire each other.

Begin idea tithing today.

An idea can take nothing and turn it into something .- Mark Victor Hansen

“If you have a penny and I have a penny and we exchange pennies, you still have one cent and I still have one cent.  But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange ideas, you now have two ideas and I now have two ideas.”

From the Bible:

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.  Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.  I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit,” says the Lord Almighty.  “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty.   Malachi 3: 10-12 (NIV)

Direction for Today:

What could you tithe from your life today – other than just money?

Tithing in itself was a written law to the levites. It was apart of the Mosaic Law. You can read the torah or Leviticus to see that. Also if people would just read the first two chapters of Malachi as well as the well known chapter 3, they would realize that Malachi is talking to the Levite Priests who were not up holding the Mosaic Law of tithing and as a result the temple was suffering. So what we have here is God's chosen people not obeying the Law and suffering the results of it. In the new testatment alms giving is talked about not tithing. Paul tells us give from our hearts and James says to give to those in need. Paul also said that the Mosaic Law was nailed to te cross. But we being gentiles are not subject to the law of Moses because the ordinances given to Moses by God were for Israel not the gentiles. The Law of Moses was to reveal their sin and lead them to Christ, so way do we still follow the Law of Moses is the bigger question.

It's interesting that we think God's principles are not defined within the spiritual realm, but instead, is defined by the physical realm, by way of earthly standards. What I mean is that we've made tithing, a physical milestone, an eternal/spiritual principle. In the OT, God's principles are not found in the specific assignments, they are found in the lesson. God didn't tell Israel to give offerings, gifts, and sacrifices so he could teach them about his principle of tithing. He told Israel to give tithe, offerings, and first fruits so he could teach them the principle of stewardship.

We do not have to obey the exact assignments of Israel, but we do need to follow the spiritual principle of stewardship. In the New Testament, we are given a different tutor than Israel was given. They did not have the Spirit of God inside of them like we do. So, just as Israel treated the Mosaic law as their tutor, so should we obey God's Spirit as ours.

titheing is NOT a new test command. Jesus taught
giving . There is NOTHING in the new test about titheing except what Jesus said about the pharise who gave his
legal 10%, and told woman who gave all she had.
We as Christians must GIVE as the Holy Spirit guides
us, this can be of time, money,of any thing we have,
Ect. Tithing is giving of your self for the work of
God. Do not let some man's church tell you that you
MUST give 10% to the church for God.
