Of course it is sin..Jesus anguished over the fact people followed the traditions of man and not the commandments of God. Show me a scripture verse that says we are supposed to keep a day with pagan overtones supposedly dedicated to saints..saints of whom? The pagan roman church? You will not find a scripture to support it. Why not, if you want to follow days follow the Jewish days which were God commandments in the Old testament, such as Feast of Tabernacles which was commanded by God, and has some Godly significance to our lives...but instead so call "christians" think they are smarter than God and can pick the days they want to keep, without Biblical command or authority,

Know the truth and it will set you free
Remember the Sabbath to keep it Holy
God bless us all.

“For such a time as this you have been called”. Could we stand as they did? Some pay a price, (3 missionaries, tortured & killed in Turkey-last yr, even here in Colorado in a missionary school, a gunman kills student!). These people should be remembered, we remember our fallen veterans to gave their life for our country’s freedom, why not the men & women who paid a price for our faith?

I can’t celebrate Halloween. Due to personal knowledge & experience with the occult, I know what it really means. I also believe very strongly on open doors. My soap-box is “just because you lack the knowledge of it, doesn’t mean it’s not so, that just makes you ignorant (unaware/uninformed/ignorant of the danger caused by lack of knowledge)”, our people perish for lack of knowledge. As a Christian, we are to close doors that the enemy would try to come into so, why would I willingly participate in something that the enemy takes pleasure in, especially in Christians celebrating?? I just find it distressing.
My kids are grown now & when they were small, they complained about the whole thing. At that time, I explained it according to their ability to comprehend. It was not a hard thing, b/c I didn’t say yes to everything anyway. They did not participate in lots of things their friends did. Recently, I revisited this conversation with my youngest, who is now a senior in HS. This time, however, I did give him details that he was unaware of before. It’s amazing to me that even though he has never celebrated Halloween and even though I’ve explained it for years, he still had questions. The pressure (peer pressure) is amazing. For those wondering “NO”, he is not participating. This is why I have trouble with the churches Harvest Festival. Isn’t that just compromising?
Some may agree and some may think differently, that’s the wonderful thing about our country… we are free to express ourselves. (I’m the wife of a Marine who has served for 30 yrs. I’m quite familiar with the price of freedom.) I’m for remembering the Patron Saints of Old, it’s their sacrifice and blood that paved a way for us and our freedom today. Please note they stood for Christ, so don’t think I think more highly of them. Christ paid the ultimate price; it’s His blood that made the way. It is b/c of Christ that they stood & why we are here today. “For such a time as this you ha

Halloween like many other holidays that were changed by the 'Church', to appease the pagans, takes man into a area of compromise that we as believers are to avoid. The bible says that we are not to be comformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Our children learn what they are taught. While the article is a good history lesson, I don't believe that we should encourage our children to become like the heathens to win them to the Lord. I and my now adult children have never celebrated this day. We, in the past have purchased tracts about halloween and put them in the bags of the children who came to our house. And tonight, I and some of the saints will be interceding for the salvation of the witches, warlocks and satanists.

I guess this is the dilemma we Christians face with Halloween. On the one hand, the Bible teaches us not to participate in idol worship. However, we are also called to preach the gospel in all opportunity. Even Paul himself took advantage of the Greek's "unknown god" statue. In Acts 17:23 Paul says "For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: ~to an unknown god. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you."

I personally see that Halloween is a good opportunity to share the gospel, especially to children, by other children. As this article points out, this event used to commemorate the lives of those who died for their faith in Christ.

I cannot say that I agree with this. Although "All Saints Day" was established prior to what is commonly known as Halloween they never dressed in customes. That was adopted by a pagan ritual. We are not called to do what the unsaved do, nor are we even to mimic there works (Exodus 23:24). Simply because it is idoltary. It is a form of worship unto other gods who supposedly rose from the dead on that night. So by me taking pleasure in those things I am going to recieve the same reward they recieved (Romans 1:32) although I meant it for good. That's why God told Saul to destroy ALL THINGS when he conquered the land simply because we cannot take anything used to worship the devil and use as worship unto God. I do believe in giving something back to children when taking something away from them. So there's nothing wrong with planning a fun day with them, as long as it doesn't not involve anything remotely associated with the pagan rituals.

Awesome article. It is about time someone shed a positive light on All Hallow's Eve. Well written, Sarah!
