"If the leaders did a good job, we would play church for hours. However, if they were not entertaining enough, the kids in the chairs would soon get bored and go in search of more exciting recreation in the front yard." Sadly, this is true in many contemporary churches. An elder in a church I once served told me, "Preacher, there's very few people who get saved after 12 o'clock." Where did this whole idea of putting a time limit on worship services come from? It certainly isn't biblical, as the church described in The Acts of the Apostles would meet on the first day of the week (Sunday), worship together, share a meal together, and just generally observe the Sabbath - the WHOLE Sabbath - together. Only in the African-American church is this true today, and I have repeatedly expressed my envy of that to my African-American colleagues in ministry.
