I'm not posting to argue with anyone, rather I am here to say why I celebrate December 25th. I know that people will never be able to find Jesus' exact birth date. I also know that non-Christians celebrate Christmas with Santa Claus. But I look at all of this a bit differently. I see Santa Claus as being Saint Nicholas, a very devout and honorable man who really lived. The concept of Santa is generally used to children to obey their parents and try to be good instead of naughty. Every parent wants that. Although a pagan holiday before Jesus' birth, the day was picked for a reason by some authority to perhaps redeem it. I believe that the celebration of Christmas is important if Christians celebrate it with a difference. Read the story of Jesus' birth rather then 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, put up nativities rather than Christmas trees, and buy one gift for your family members and tell them about the One special Gift God has given us. Remind them what Christmas is really about. =)

It is an affront to the deity of Christ to celebrate
His birthday. As if Jesus did not exist before His nativity. Birthdays are pagan. Jews in Bible times
did not celebrate their birthdays like the heathen Pharoahs
and Caesars. Christians are deceived if they think God approves of Christmas trees, Santa Claus, wreaths.
Jesus doesn't want us using pagan customs in His honor.
The only reason people celebrate Christmas is because
they like it. And that is the honest truth.

Seemingly forgotten is the essential role religion played in the world of ancient Rome. But the Emperor Constantine understood. By giving official status to Christianity, he brought internal peace to the Empire. A brilliant military commander, he also had the genius to recognize that after declaring Christianity the "state" religion (Constantine forced all the pagans of his empire to be baptized into the Roman Church), there was need for true union between paganism and Christianity. The corrupt Roman Church was full of pagans now masquerading as Christians, all of which had to be pacified. What better way than to "Christianize" their pagan idolatries. Thus, the Babylonian mystery religions were introduced by Constantine beginning in 313 A.D. (and established a foothold with the holding of the Council of Nicaea in 325 A.D.). The Constantine-led Roman Church was more than willing to adapt and adopt pagan practices in order to make Christianity ok

Excellent article. Christmas is one of two times a year where the lost purposefully want to go to church. What an opportunity for evangelism!!!

I think it would be a shame to lose this opportunity to present the Word made flesh to a lost World. Perhaps this is an occasion to "be all things to all men", as Paul admonished.

By the way, as an American living in New Zealand, Christmas is not "as American as apple pie". I think there will be many international perusers of your article who will beg to differ on that statement. We do it up big in New Zealand, but with barbeque meals enjoyed amonst the roses and trips to the beach amongst Pahutakawa trees. And, we are actually allowed to say "Merry Christmas".

Thank you Lord for the opportunity to post this message. As I have posted many times before on topics like mothers day, thanksgiving, valentines day. All the pagan holidays. Jesus is our Lord and Savior, God in the flesh, and Christmas should be celebrated everyday along with thanksgiving, valentines day, mother and fathers day, secretaries day, childrens day, grandparents day and the list goes on and on. Every day is a gift from the Lord and we as the body of Christ and a light to the world, should live as we believe. That without Jesus as your personal savior, you have no life. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, everything else is just a lie. Everything the world has taught us has been a lie. Anything that Satan can use to take the focus of what being on earth is all about. Rom11:36 "EVERYTHING comes from God ALONE< EVERYTHING is from his power and EVERYTHING is for his glory"
It's all about Jesus. He put us here for his glory, to glorify God, through the Son. love to all

No. We have been warned countless time throughout the Bible not to follow after the pagan traditions.

How does God answer in His Word? "Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them [the pagans in their customs]... that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. Thou shalt not do so unto the Lord they God: for every abomination to the Eternal, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods" (Deut 12:30-31).

God says plainly in His Instruction Book to us, that He will not accept that kind of worship, even though intended in His honor. To Him, He says, it is offering what is ABOMINABLE to Him, and therefore it honors, not Him, but false pagan gods. God says we must not worship Him according to the "dictates of our own conscience" - a term we often hear. But Jesus says plainly, "God is a spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth" (John 4:24)also see Matt 15:9

Read 1 Corinthians 12:10 Douay-Rheims Bible

Believers do not follow sings and wonders. Signs and wonders follow the believer.
I’m going to have to go from 3 confirmations that December 25 is indeed a justifiable holiday for a born again believer:

1. I read March 25 was the day of Jesus’ death as based by the times of Passover for that year as stated in Greg Peter’s notes. I came up to the “coincidence,” which there are no such things as such, God has reasons for everything, that December 25 is yes 9 months after, and concluded by the confirmation of my new God given heart that this could mean as a rebirth after 9 months, without looking ahead to the next paragraph, honestly. -There are many spiritual gifts remember this- a freebie I wont count this one.
2. Bam-The radio in the other room plays a Christian song with the lyrics “…Jesus died and rose again” then I jump for joy at the acknowledgement of this sign.
3. Bam-I read on to the next paragraph and there it is, plain as day, “ancient rabbinic practice” confirming my observations.

Claire Shipley of Orlando, I loved your comment.

Greg Peters’ final statement of “…Christmas is a season, not a day. It's important to keep in mind although Christmas Day or Dec. 25 may seem very materialistic, that the season itself doesn't have to be…..” is so true.

Christmas has a deeper meaning, being more than just the actual event in itself, like Water Baptism. It’s a representation of a proclamation. Other wise it would be blasphemy going to the beach all the time, or taking a bath, or taking a dive in the pool, which if used as a definition of these actions would be absurd, right? Don’t be so Legalistic, people.

p.s. If a guy named Jesus “hey-suess” beat you up in elementary school don’t take it out on my savior Jesus “jee-zuz”

Great article on Christmas and it made me guilty of judging others in my neighborhood that do not celebrate. I not stand corrected and enlightened. Thanks
