United Kingdom Olympic athletes must sign a clause to compete in the 2008 Games, held in China. The clause instructs them to 'not' speak publicly about the human rights violations that China is overseeing, in and around the Sudan. Some are saying that this Olympiad may be the most politically infused since the Berlin Games of 1936. What should our US Athletes do in response to China's human rights violations? What do you expect of an athlete performing in the face of international knowledge of humans rights violations? Do we see these athletes as political ponds, or simple competitors? Jesse Owens example might be the best, but he did speak his mind while in Germany.

Some pastors are put in a tough spot, having to perform a funeral when they know the person who died did not believe in Jesus Christ. Should non-believers receive a Christian funeral? How do we know about the person's faith, or heart for that matter? What are the purpose of funerals, are they for the death or the living? In this case, does it really matter what the deceased believed or didn't believe? Christian funerals are for the Gospel, not for the survivors or the passed. I say love, reach and teach of Jesus no matter the level of life commitment the person had.

The Season of Lent is upon us; many churches are asking for members to 'give up carbon' this season. Shrink your carbon footprint as a sacrifice unto the Lord for Lent, at the same time make a statement about Creation Care and Conservation. In essence, you can kill two birds with one stone...of course this is rhetorical only. Does Father God see this as a sacrifice? Is it of value in denying one's self for the worship and remembrance of Jesus' work on the cross for our salvation? It does have a redemptive theme.
