Further, we need to test all things - this includes Obama's claim to be a uniter. How would a black person feel if a candidate for office blamed all the problems faced by whites on blacks?

While I appreciate the call to study more closely the scary things Obama's church preaches, it would be helpful for the author to remember that our mission as Christians is not to defend capitalist democracy (even if you believe, as I certainly do, that it is the best system we have yet found), but rather to be agents of reconciliation.

I doubt though, that God's purpose in sending Christ was to build us a more compassionate government, as Obama might believe. Compassion is the mission both of individual believers and also of the church of God.

I abhor racist theology such as Obama's pastor plainly preaches; I also think we need to be wary of reflexively defending our government when doing so may be a stumbling block to church-wide unity and may compromise our Christian witness. If we do our job as the church, we won't need politicians to care for the oppressed. Jesus was wary of political power and seeks servant leaders; let's hope Republicans and Democrats embrace this calling.

The author is the one twisting scripture. Jesus tells us to keep our brother by saying do likewise in Matt 10:37. 27.He answered: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' "
28."You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."
29. so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"
30.In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.
33.But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.
34.He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him.
36."Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"
37.The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise." Also see Deut22:1-4 on keeping your brother.

As a congregation of baptized believers, we are called to be agents of liberation not only for the oppressed, but for all of God’s family is what the Mission statement actually says. It is not what the author tries to mislead the readers to believe. This article is rooted in fear, distortion, and misunderstanding. Frankly, I'm disappointed that crosswalk would print it without checking the website for itself. Just like Wrights comments are taken out of context and presented as if Senator Obama really agrees with the statements but is lying to the American people, this article attempts to derail the Senator's momentum and support in truly uniting this country. Crosswalk readers are more diverse than this author or the critic who reviewed the movie Daddy's little Girls realizes. This is one sided political speech and Cross walk should not publish it to its diverse readers without presenting a view of Christians who support Senator Obama. Yes he is a U.S. Senator. I am a black female Christian and I am appalled that Crosswalk would publish this kind of one-sided skewed viewpoint about a political candidate. Barack Obama is a black man in America and because he like any black American with their eyes open has experienced oppression, racism, or classism in some regard an therefore does not deny it's existence does not make him some kind of radical.

This article needs to be removed from the site. Its undertones and political statements are inappropriate and un-Christian. I regularly visit Crosswalk (it is my homepage)for articles on spirituality, careers, and relationships. However, I am forced to seriously reconsider my allegiance to this site after reading this the 2nd anti-Obama article.
