California will be able to obtain marriage licenses from county clerks beginning June 17, state officials said Wednesday. In an e-mail message to the 58 county clerks, the Office of Vital Records offered guidance on amending existing marriage forms. Licenses will be changed to identify couples as Party A and Party B rather than bride and groom, a spokeswoman for the Public Health Department said. The spokeswoman, Suanne Buggy, said the change would set in motion procedures to comply with the 4-to-3 decision by the State Supreme Court on May 15 to overturn a ban on same-sex marriages.
