We are not telling the story of the struggle; that these people made and pledged and gave their lives, their fortune and their sacred honor for us. I would highly recommend the following to view:
1)The History Channel's documentary on George Washington.
2)HBO's John Adams. Author David McCullough calls it the most accurate depiction that he has seen. A great work both historically and for entertainment value.
3)Yes, I would highly recommend Mel Gibson's, The Patriot. ClearPlay is recommended and / or restrict kids under 12. The violence is within context of what you would expect from war.
4)& 5) Though not of that period, you will gain a new insights into our heritage from the Civil War movies, Gods and Generals and Gettysburg.
