I was married to an aggressor. I didn't realize it to what extent that he was this way until after he left us. What helped a great deal was a book that my counselor suggested called, "The Verbally Abusive Relationship" by Patricia Evans. The characteristics described in your article are very typical to a verbal abuser. I would highly suggest reading this book to anyone who finds themselves specifically in a marriage with an abuser or even if you think you were. God used it as a healing book for me. Hard at first because I did not realize I was even in that kind of relationship. I got angry at myself for allowing myself to be in a relationship like that. But I couldn't believe a book described my ex so graphically...it totally validated my feelings and thoughts. As a result, the crazymaking that went on in the marriage didn't leave me feeling like I was crazy anymore, nor did I feel like I was to blame for his actions.
Standing up for myself now.
