Tonight we offer our Friday Feature called: “The Council of Many”

On Friday’s I occasionally do a segment called “The Council of Many” (borrowed from many sources; my email files, TV and the marketplace conversations I have each day) on the show. In asking others there is wisdom. Here are a couple of ideas for tonight’s show:

“…Eric, you talk about ‘love’ for sinners on your show; If a gay minister was invited to your church to preach would you verbally protest? Reports show that the world's first openly gay Anglican Bishop was heckled during his message at a church in England recently. As the Bishop began, a young, long haired man clutching a motorcycle helmet, began to speak out his more conservative views. Would you have done the same or would have just sat quietly? Would you have walked out? Is there a time and a place for a public challenge and do you feel the time has finally come or do you feel that there are more appropriate ways to protest? What would YOU do, Eric?…”

“…Mr. Hogue we love your show…recently our church has decided to ‘shut down’ for the summer. Due to gas prices, and the busy schedule of ‘kids, families and summer vacations’, we have decided to pause all ministries and activities and encourage our members to meet with a small group and their own neighborhood. If your church decided to close in the summer, how would you react? Some feel that the community would see this as God taking holidays and that “ministry” should go on. After all, many people are dependant on the church. Others feel that taking a summer break would give a chance for volunteers to recharge and maybe get more involved with their neighbors. If you think this is such a good idea, why do very few churches actually close for “holidays”?…”

And here is one I created from the news today…

Same-sex divorce; brings interesting question for church…'They've given us no choice but to be married forever,' says a Rhode Island woman. Her state doesn't recognize gay marriage, and the state where she was wed limits divorces to residents. Los Angeles Times

OK, here is a thought today; you have a Gay Couple (married) attend your church (because we are loving and reaching toward gay individuals), they hear Jesus’ message of salvation and relationship and come to faith in Him. In a few months they are convicted about their “marriage”…should you encourage and support a “divorce” in this case? What if they have adopted children? Do you dissolve a ‘family atmosphere” for the boy, or girl, by encouraging a divorce? I thought divorce was only in cases of adultery, abuse and abandonment?

“The Council of Many” on tonight’s show. OK, back to today’s news stories.

Judge makes parents change daughter’s stupid name…

"The court is profoundly concerned about the very poor judgment which this child's parents have shown in choosing this name," he wrote. "It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap, unnecessarily." All this while the soap star from General Hospital defends his decision to name his son Peanut. AP
