To imply that she would not be able to be a mom and a VP is to show that we are still not making room for the needs of women in the workplace. I am sure that alot of servant politicians as well as other pro's would have loved to have more time at home raising thier kids weather men or women.I think it interesting that if her husband was running for office would we really be wondering if "He" was going to have enough time to be VP and raise his kids? We also need to look at the help that we "The People" can provide for her and her family. I would not have a problem with her having access to domestic help cook, housekeeper ,theraputic helper for trig, Etc. as she serves. I would expect us to make no less arrangements for any of our public servants male or feamle.The english made room for the queen to be mom and monarch.. I wonder if Deborah in the bible had kids while she was running Israel?

I think the Christian community would be just as supportive of the teenage daughter of a black family choosing LIFE for her baby as white, or hispanic or whoever. The point is LIFE.

Sofy--you are on target! If Michelle & Barak had a 17 yr. old pregnant daughter, they would be labeled unfit parents & would signify all that was wrong with the urban youth (code word for non-white). I would love to have seen Crosswalk defend Michelle Obama's pregnant child & not mention ALL of the other issues that are always brought up in relation to black families: "broken home, promiscuous,ghetto." I'm a faithful reader of Crosswalk AND member of Moody. But, I will not allow those two things to blind me to how biased this article is! How dare the article not even address the obvious issues. Now that she is pregnant OF COURSE she should have the baby but that doesn't change the fact that she should not have been having sex anyway. And, before anyone writes back decrying me for "judging" the Palins, I am not. I'm taking issue with those who interpret this situation positively for the white family while we KNOW if it were the Obamas you all would be crucifying them.

If this woman would have been a black woman the worst comments would have been made. So it appears that this situation is acceptable for a certain groupd of people. Sarah Palin is not fit to preside over America. She has lost control of her own house hold. Where is the father? They have no control over their family. She is unstable and can not make the best decisions for her family. How will she be able to make decisions for America.

No family is perfect, not even a family of Christians. Mistakes happen, but our judging the Palins isn't going to help either their family or the upcoming election. Instead we should be grateful that they're courageously facing this issue that has arisen. Many Christian families suffer through precisely the same sins and errors in their lives. The Palins are being singled out because they're in the political spotlight at such a crucial time. Let's not add to their stress by haranguing or "nitpicking" as another reviewer mentioned.

We are all human and fall short. We do not know Gods plan, but I do think we need to stop judging others short comings.. We also have a beautiful grandson who is 16 months old. His mother is also not married but planning to marry the father in January. This child is nothing short of God's beautiful creation and I am so thankful we have him.

Dr. Mohler,
I read your blog on Crosswalk today and I understand what you are saying,but the truth is that many American families, including believing Christian families are facing or have faced the same issues that the Palin's are. Wouldn't it be better to urge believers to pray for the Palin family rather than "nitpicking" their choices? I lead a women's Bible study in my home and we pray for the country and the candidates (including Sarah Palin and her family) weekly. And if you don't vote for McCain/Palin who do you vote for? She has a strong pro-life position and a strong faith. I believe God is sovereign and that Sarah Palin is in this position for a reason. I heard her testimony from two of her pastors and perhaps she was placed here and now in this position like Esther "for such a time as this."

No where is this issue more hotly contested than in the minds of Christian college students, who have not yet chosen their path. Sarah Palin is a great example of a confident and successful Christian woman who did not buy into the feminist notion that husbands and children slow a woman down professionally.

Young Christian women need her example. But we also need to engage this group in a discussion of priorities. What kind of mother do they want to be? How much time do they want to have for their families? Then we need to give them the tools to trust God with their career path as it merges with family planning. These young women will someday be raising our future citizens.

If Mothers' weren't able to go to work because of
having a family, and (Heaven forbid!!)a pregnant also;
this country would fall apart!!!! There are currently
so many households that are fatherless, and motherless
that this debate and ignorant thinking is absolutely
ridiculous!!! Just how far are these media blasters removed from the life of the middle American families??

Luke 7:31And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?
32They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.

I wonder evangelicals just WHAT Do you want. This family has kept a downs child and decided to not abort in a situation that would be so easy to do! Can there be any higher pro life stance!? People will have sex, sometimes out of marriage and yes sometimes pregnancies result! If we want unmarried mothers to not abort then we better get off the high horse of judgment about their situation. If we tell expectant mothers they should keep their child regardless of it's disability then we BETTER be helping them however and whenever we can! There is entirely too much talk and not enough walk. Jesus said "Go and learn what it means I will have mercy and not sacrifice"
