"Why do environmentalists care more for the planet than the poor?" -- interesting argument, and may have some validity IF you limit your definition of "poor" to "Americans who struggle to pay $4/gal for petrol". [as an aside, petrol prices in Europe are around double that].

If, however, you care to take a less American-centric view (I know that's challenging, given God clearly cares more for America that any other nation, but go with me) then maybe, just maybe you might realise that the effects of man-made climate change effect the poor (by which I mean the estimated 1 bn living on around $1/day) disproportionately.

So, with a more global perspective, maybe environmentally-aware people (maybe even some Christians) possibly think that climate change's impact on the poor (the real poor) is actually quite an important driver in trying to limit CO2 emissions.

For everyone praying for low gas prices (as God intended). [see Heresiah, my favourite book in the bible]
