I have been saying this for over 10 years! I am so happy to find others with the same views. I was part of the leadership of a megachurch who would not listen to me and others who tried to tell them this very thing. As a result they further down the consumer road and it was rejected by the church members and over 1100 people left in a year, including me after being there for 15 years. Sadly, they removed the pastor but didn't learn the lesson.

Great article.

One of the things the Willow Creek study found was that those most committed to walking with Christ attend church only occasionally. Wow.

Current Christian Culture seems to have abandoned the idea that we don't GO to church, we ARE the church. This isn't theoretical doctrine. It's living, fire breathing reality.

I'm afraid the usual case has has substituted "doing" ("going" is a subset) for "being."

Thank you for this article. I WISH AND PRAY that more pastors would get this. I know they have financial pressures but as Willow Creek discovered. IT DOES NOT WORK!
In a biblical sense anyway. I guess if the Bible doesn't matter anymore than it works.
