I emerged scathed but hopeful from the 60's. The Jackson 5 were very dear to me. Esp. Michael, of course. Over the years as I witnessed his transformation, I began to ask why. I had heard he was abused by his father who was also very demanding and mean. That puts a twist on anyones view of themselves.
As his transformation became more and more grotesque, I realized he hated himself as I had hated myself. So I sort of understood why he wanted to be someone else.
Now, through his passing, I feel so bad, sorry for the tormented inner life Michael was determined to cover up with being the best of who he was presenting to us.
Some people can get help for, what I would call, mental illness or mental anguish. Why he chose not to, only he and God know.
All that he was and all that he did stated he felt unloved, unaccepted, and unloveable. Now, I would take Michael in my arms and hold him tight and tell him that he is loved for who he is.
