Ten Films for 2011

4.) Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Release Date: May 20, 2011
Genres: Comedy - Action
After two lackluster sequels, most people would think it's time the Pirates franchise set sail for good, but Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides looks like it could win back some of the series' disgruntled mutineers. The new film follows Capt. Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and his search for the Fountain of Youth. Both Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann have been given the old heave-ho, and some new blood has come forward to stir the waters (both physically and metaphorically). Penelope Cruz will be introduced as a devious flame from Jack's past, and veteran actor Ian McShane is taking the helm as the dread pirate Blackbeard. Overall, the new movie looks like it may have some of that swashbuckling savvy we've all come to know and love.
Release Date: May 20, 2011
Genre: Action - Fantasy
There are certainly plenty of superhero movies coming out in 2011. Ryan Reynolds will light up the screen as DC comic's Green Lantern, while a fresh, young cast of mutants has already been assembled for X-men: First Class. But the hero currently attracting the most buzz is Marvel's Thor. After being banished from Asgard by his Father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) must learn what it means to be a true hero before sinister forces destroy both worlds. Helping him along the way is scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who becomes the Norse God's love interest. Lot's of fighting? Check. Cool effects? Check. Possible cameos by other superheroes? Check. What's not to like?
6.) Super 8
Release Date: June 8, 2011
Genre: Suspense - Science Fiction
The enigmatic Super 8 has been tantalizing Sci-fi geeks for almost a year now. Nothing is known about the film, save that it is set in 1979. Writer/director J.J. Abrams and producer Steven Spielberg have been notoriously tight lipped about their project, and the film's trailer, which depicts only a chaotic series of images, has been no more revealing. It's quite the nail-biter, one that will keep us guessing till early June.
7.) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II
Release Date: July 15, 2011
Genre: Adventure - Drama
Was there ever any doubt? The final installment of the Harry Potter series has been eagerly awaited by fans, and when the movie finally premiers in theaters mid July, it'll probably have more spectators than the Quidditch World Cup! Following the events of the previous film, Harry, Ron, and Hermione (Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson) will continue their hunt for Lord Voldemort's Horcruxes. What's to be expected? An escape from a goblin bank, a battle for Hogwarts, and the final showdown between the Dark Lord and the Boy who Lived.
