I am an adult of divorced parents. I did ask my parents what happened but not until 23 years after their divorce. I was going thru so much depression and was always angry and did not know why. Thru counseling I figured out one of the reasons was because I never dealt with their divorce. They had been married for 26 years before the divorce occurred. Speaking with them made a difference. I had only been married for two years when they divorced. I now have been married for almost 30 years. Knowing the "why" has helped my relationship with my parents. Things that happened while they were still married to each other now make more sense to me. Talking really helps.
