Fall Shows First Look: ABC
- Tuesday, June 12, 2012
What's it About: Rayna James (Connie Britton) used to be the Queen of Country music, but now her star is beginning to fade. In an effort to save her career, Rayna's producers offer her a joint tour alongside the young and ambitious new singer, Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere). Both women have their agendas though, and they have yet to account for the songwriters, producers, and politicians who are after their own piece of fame and fortune.
First Impressions: The trailer alone is enough proof of how talented these two actresses are. We still don't know if audiences will be treated to some actual songs, but with Glee graduating and Smash underperforming, Nashville might swoop in to take the reins of TV music. Add some solid storytelling and you have yourself a show.
Final Verdict: Watch
What's it About: Set in New Jersey, this comedy follows an average suburban family named the Weavers as they make the move into a townhouse community. Upon their arrival however, they discover the entire neighborhood is populated by aliens who have been stranded on Earth for ten years. With nowhere to go, the Weavers settle in and begin teaching their new neighbors what being human is all about.
First Impressions: Oh wow, does this look bad. It's hard to believe that a show with the same hilarious concept as 3rd Rock From the Sun could come down so bland. Try as it may the trailer isn't funny, just awkward. We doubt this one will last very long.
Final Verdict: Pass
What's it About: After spending years trying to persuade her husband to leave his life of crime, a young mother (Radha Mitchell) finds she must now seize control of his criminal empire after he is assassinated by a deadly rival. This means going to war with thieves, murderers, the police, and anyone else that may harm her family.
First Impressions: Pros - The idea is pretty intriguing, Radha Mitchell is a new face with new potential, and the name is pretty catchy. Cons- It came from the screenwriters of the Twilight series.
Final Verdict: Undetermined
What's it About: Hank Foley (Anthony Edwards) is an ordinary man who spends his day running an antique shop alongside his wife, Laila (Jacinda Barrett). Then one day Laila is kidnapped by a known international terrorist, and Foley himself becomes caught up in a dangerous conspiracy surrounding an old clock she had recently purchased. As the mystery deepens, he and his allies discover the old timepiece is actually a powerful relic created by the early Church as a way to battle a great evil, an evil that will stop at nothing to destroy them all.
First Impressions: Is it possible there will actually be a Christ themed drama on TV this fall? We still don't have much information, but we're hoping for the best.
Final Verdict: Watch
