Fall TV: Where They Left Off

The lazy days of summer are drawing to a close, which means the really lazy nights of fall are just around the corner. If you're like me, this means tuning in for the return of all your favorite TV shows, and if you're not like me, well, you're probably much more constructive with your free time. Either way, it can be tough to keep track of what's going on in the world of television, so TheFish.com has decided to bring you up-to-date with what's happening in some of your favorite shows. Here's where we left off…

Castle (ABC)

Last Season
Castle's secret investigation into the murder of Beckett's mother was blown wide open after the duo discovered evidence on a dead gang member that linked the two crimes. Beckett hunted for the man who shot her, and almost died in the ensuing battle. In the wake of her near death experience, she quite the force and finally admitted her feelings to Castle.

This Fall
Creator Andrew Marlowe has hinted that big things are going to be happening this season. For starters, neither Castle nor Beckett will be out of danger for long, and both will soon learned they've jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire. On another note, Heroes Jack Coleman is set to make an appearance as a powerful senator, and the truth behind the murder of Beckett's mother will finally be revealed.

Modern Family (ABC)

Last Season
Cam, Mitchell, and Gloria headed to the hospital to welcome the newest member of the family. They missed their chance to adopt, but were still treated to a hilarious live action Spanish Soap Opera. Meanwhile, Gloria discovered she was pregnant, while Haley made her college plans.

This Fall
It's pretty obvious that the big opener for this season will be the family's reaction to Gloria's big news. Poor Jay is likely to stress about being a father again while Cam and Mitchell will probably have mixed feelings. But the real event: how will Claire and Manny react to being older siblings?

Parks and Recreation (NBC)

Last Season
After a season of campaigning, Leslie Knope appeared to have lost the election for City Council. But, surprise, in a major upset it turned out she'd actually won by a slight margin! The celebration was tempered by Ben's announcement that he'd accepted a job offer in Washington, while Ann and Tom decided to give their relationship another try.

This Fall
It has been announced that Leslie will head to Washington D.C. in the premiere, with cameo appearances by senators John McCain, Olympia Snowe, and Barbara Boxer. Meanwhile back in Pawnee, Andy will be applying for the police force and Ann will likely have second thoughts about her relationship with Tom.

Downton Abbey (PBS)

Last Season
After enduring scandal, illness, and the ravages of World War I, the survivors of Downton gathered together only to find more trouble in their midst. Lady Sybil decided to marry the family chauffer, Branson, much to her families distaste. Mr. Bates was arrested for the murder of his wife and sentenced to life in prison, while Anna declared that she would not rest until he was proven innocent. Finally, Matthew Crawley finally proposes to Lady Mary, who accepted.

This Fall
Don't expect the marital bliss to last, few things do on this show. The creators of Downton have been notoriously tight-lipped about season 3 but have let a few things slip. The new season will be set during the Roaring Twenties and Actress Shirley MacLaine will join the cast as Martha Levinson, Cora's mother, who will butt heads with the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith). There will be several new additions to the cast, and it has been hinted that a main character will be killed off.

Person of Interest (CBS)

Last Season
The last episode started with Reese and Finch setting out to rescue a psychologist (played by Amy Acker) who was being targeted by a group of corrupt cops known as HR. Though Reese was able to dispatch the attackers, the entire operation turned out to be a ruse orchestrated by the criminal hacker Root to lure Finch out of hiding. With his partner missing, Reese began to seemingly communicate directly with The Machine for help.

This Fall
The first few episodes will likely focus on Reese's attempts to find Finch and his new relationship with The Machine. Jonathan Nolan, the show's creator, explained that audiences would learn more about the mysterious Machine in the upcoming season, and more specifically, how it works. Viewers should also expect Root to become a long-term adversary who gives the two partners a lot of trouble.

Once Upon A Time (ABC)

Last Season
After Henry ate a cursed apple (turnover), Emma and Regina were forced to work together in order to save his life. Emma had to slay a dragon guarding an enchanted potion, but was double-crossed at the last minute by Rumpelstiltskin, who used the potion to bring magic into Storybrooke. Not to worry though, after kissing Henry on the forehead, true loves power brought him back and broke the curse to boot!

This Fall
There are a lot of things to expect in Season 2, most notably an awkward family reunion between Emma and the Charmings. Plus, now that everyone knows who they are, you can be sure to see some new fables come out of the woodwork, and not all of them are happy. Sleeping Beauty, Sir Lancelot, Captain Hook, and Mulan are among the new characters popping up this season. Plus, Henry's true father will finally be revealed!

30 Rock (NBC)

Last Season
After finally rescuing his wife from North Korea, Jack and Avery decided to renew their wedding vows but ended up getting divorced instead. Liz and Criss worked toward having their first child, with Criss selling his van to a crew of bank robbers to raise money for the nursery. Kenneth and Hazel bickered over the page program, and Tracy was inspired to create his own studio.

This Fall
There's really no way to predict what insane antics will follow the new episodes of 30 Rock. However, seeing as season 7 is being billed as the show's last, you should expect things to be more over-the-top than ever. My guess? Expect a baby, a marriage, and another live episode.

The Walking Dead (AMC)

Last Season
A whole lot of people died, and none of them stayed dead. This was due to the unfortunate discovery that everyone was already infected by the zombie virus and were sure to start craving brains the moment they gave up the ghost. Luckily, a mysterious hooded figure turned up with a large sword to help cut down the zombie population.

This Fall
If you're a fan of the graphic novel you probably know what's coming next. The survivors will start the season by trying to reclaim a prison from the zombies and turning it into their new home. Unfortunately, a shady individual known as The Governor (David Morrisey) also stakes a claim on the location. The group will also find a new ally in the katana-savvy Michonne (Danai Gurira).

Blue Bloods (CBS)

Last Season
The families Mother's Day celebration was interrupted when Frank and the NYPD had to covertly prevent a terrorist attack. Meanwhile, Danny and Jamie had to put aside their differences in order to rescue a boy from a cold case.

This Fall
Blue Bloods will see a lot of new faces this season. Jamie will receive a new partner with a short fuse, and Erin's ex-husband (played by Peter Hermann) will face her in court as they argue over the constitutionality of police policy. Expect to see the family dynamics get even more intense.

New Girl (Fox)

Last Season
Despite his resolution to move in with his ex-girlfriend, Nick broke down and instead drove his U-Haul into the middle of the desert. Eventually, he decided to stay with the gang. On that happy note, Schmidt broke up with Cece because he believed he wasn't good enough for her.

This Fall
Jess is going to lose her job and the results will send her over the deep end. Creator Liz Meriwether hints that this will leave Jess with a huge identity crisis, as well as a new "interest" in a character. On top of everything, Schmidt will find it's not that easy to break up with Cece.
