Orlando, Fla. (CNSNews.com) - Citing a "frustrating absence of reliable, relevant information" for average citizens who want to know how to respond to terrorist threats, National Rifle Association (NRA) Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre announced Friday the creation of a new website devoted to "news, information and 'connectedness.'"
"NRAsafe.com" will offer original news content focused on immediate threats and emergencies; a "comprehensive library" of expert advice on actions to take in response to various emergencies; and new methods of connectivity for those interested in these topics.
"We're going to build the largest neighborhood watch program in history," LaPierre said. "But our neighborhood is coast to coast and border to border."
The NRA has teamed with Survival, Inc., headed by Rick Stewart - a former Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape trainer for the U.S. Air Force. Stewart has provided nuclear, biological and chemical weapons response training to the U.S. military, the CIA, NASA and the U.S. Navy's elite SEAL teams.
"In the survival life support business, we say you can survive 40 days without food, seven days without water, three minutes without air, but not a single second without hope," Stewart said. "Our vision for NRAsafe.com is to strengthen that hope by making accurate information available to our members and all Americans.
"Then they will understand the challenges they're likely to face, which ones they're not likely to face, and have the information to be prepared either way," he added.
NRAsafe.com is expected to launch in the summer of 2003. It will initially be available only to NRA members but will eventually be accessible to the public on a subscription basis.
