CHRISTMAS vs. HANNUKAH or NOTHING?: I've been following with some delight the back and forths between Hugh Hewitt and Jarvis on the debate of the season... I wrote about his debate extensively on this blog as well as in this column.
Now our good natured buddy Jim Geraghty of KerrySpot has weighed in taking on E.J. Dionne.
I have been fighting the anti-Christmas battles this entire holiday season. From Target, the Salvation Army, Macy's, even the Christmas cards made by my own sales department for the KMC SHOW...
In the middle of all this good natured holiday fighting...something quite amazing happened.
I am off the air for the next several days to celebrate this particular holy observance of my Savior's Birth. In the meantime my very good friend and broadcast legend BARRY FARBER - who inspired a man named Rush to become a talk radio man - will be filling for me.
After accepting my invite to man the mic for a few days...Barry shot off this card to me. (Barry is an observant Jew...)
Dear Kevin,
A Christmas card I figure is the least I can do. You've been giving me Chanukah presents all year long. (fill in opportunities) And I truly appreciate it.
Merry Christmas,
Barry
It brought home the realization that if an observant Jew can wish a Christian "Merry Christmas" as he celebrates Chanukah - the debate over religious exclusion/inclusion during this season - is NOT coming from people of faith... Instead it is coming from those who oppose faith, God, and whatever tradition those concepts might represent.
