REBECCA BEACH SPEAKS ABOUT PROF JOHN DALY: A bit earlier this afternoon you may have had the chance to catch the segment live, but if you missed it here is the student that Prof. John Daly went after in an angry, and inappropriate e-mail. LISTEN NOW.
Who could treat a girl that sounds this nice so mean?
AND FROM THE MAILBAG: A former student of the same Community College sent this letter to his local newspapers as well as the school administration. Hopefully they will be encouraged to discipline Daly properly.
Prior to attaining my Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Rutgers University, my academic pursuits began at Warren County Community College. While at WCCC, I came across some liberal professors who took no issue with many of my conservative beliefs. All class discussions and debates were lively and thought provoking and at no time did any professor try to limit debate or minimize the views of any student.
Because of this, I was shocked after reading the e-mail sent by Professor John Daly to a student organizing a conservative speaker on the campus of WCCC. Throughout college campuses across the country, left-wing activists have been disrupting such speeches by using physical intimidation and other obstructionist tactics.
Liberals like Daly talk about hearing different points of view but seem upset when those points of view differ from their own. While Mr. Daly has every right to speak his mind by attempting to prevent conservatives from showing up on campus, such boycotts threaten the very fabric of the free speech on college campuses. Furthermore, limiting speech through such means does nothing to ensure open discussion and lively debate.
Professors such as Daly need to realize that the values of diversity and inclusion also apply to people who do not share their ideas.
I can say from experience that Mr. Daly’s intolerance and oppressiveness toward opinions other than his own is not indicative of professors behave at WCCC. Every professor I have ever had at the college has welcomed debate and never disparaged or cheapened discussion in the way Mr. Daly has done.
