CASH PIC GOES GOLDEN

At last night's presentation of the 2006 Golden Globe Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association gave three honors to the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line :

BEST MOTION PICTURE – MUSICAL OR COMEDY

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE - MUSICAL OR COMEDY (Reese Witherspoon)

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE -MUSICAL OR COMEDY (Joaquin Phoenix)

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association was founded more than 60 years ago by Los Angeles-based journalists working for overseas publications. Its annual Golden Globe awards have enabled the non-profit organization to donate more than $5.5 million in the past eleven years to entertainment-related charities, as well as funding scholarships and other programs for future film and television professionals. This year the donation was more than one million dollars and the group also gave an additional $250,000 to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

NEW CHRISTIAN IMPRINT

Publishers Weekly reports that Meredith Books is launching a Christian imprint, Jordan House. Editor-at-large Ken Sidey -- formerly an editor at several Christian magazines -- will head the new imprint.

HAIR CARE FOR DEGARMO

Associated Press reports that American Idol runner-up Diana DeGarmo is heading for Broadway: She joins the cast of "Hairspray" Feb. 7.

The 18-year-old DeGarmo, niece of Christian rock legend Eddie DeGarmo (DeGarmo & Key), will portray the heroine's best friend, Penny Pingleton. The musical opened on Broadway August 2002.
