Think about it. In 1970 there were 10 million foreign born US residents. Now there are 31 million, and half of them are illegals.Even if we could marshall the technology and the systems to track and deport every illegal, we wouldn't have the will to do it. It's against the American conscience. We don't send people back. We help people. But now this goodwill has been taken advantage of by the policies of liberals who believe in a borderless world and racial activists like the Aztlan (reconquista) movement, which believes the American Southwest will be reassumed by Mexico under the sheer weight of demographic force (see The Law of Large Numbers).Talk about your"anchor baby". Americans now realize they have about 12 million anchor babies who hit the streets last week and yelled "We're ready to be born, and we don't care what you say about it.". Now our policies are held hostage by our conscience, in a situation created by activists who have no conscience.
As a social conservative on immigration, I feel like a hard working Dad who's just discovered his sexually promiscuous high school daughter is pregnant. I'm outraged over how she ignored all my pleadings and warning about the dangers of premarital sex, but I'm now unable in clear conscience to do anything but help her carry the child to term and adjust my life forever to live with her consequences. And just like anyone's life with an unexpected pregnancy, the future will never be what it could have been because it started the way it never should have. Bad beginnings beget hurried, crisis driven policies that create new sets of problems. That's where the now apparently inevitable guest worker strategy is going to end up. Why? Because you can't find a guest worker program anywhere in the world that has worked (the recent Ring of Fire in Paris comes to mind). Not one. The only thing such programs do is commit a nation to an official program of importing poverty (Germany, France) and incubating terror (England), all at huge taxpayer expense.
