THE VALUES VOTERS, WHERE ARE THEY?: An engaged "values voters" base helped President Bush soar to re-election in 2004. Bush did so well, that he in fact turned an uptick 3-4% in every county nationwide than where he had been in 2000. But will the voters that swept him back to a second term - be gone for good? The signs are terrible, horrific, literally choking to death. Is it too late for 2006?
FOX NEWS pointed out this morning that traditional values voices are feeling left out, reporting morale problems, and waning enthusiasm. Issues like Terri Schiavo left the moral conscience voices reeling.
TWO BRIGHT SPOTS - John Roberts and Samuel Alito. (Then again if you'll recall Alito was the second pick that time at bat.) But those bright spots are easily offset by the current realities which still include the problems of the 9th Circuit Court.
Add to the problems the fact that it looks like the faith communities are deeply divided over the issue of allowing illegal aliens to just walk in and now follow the laws of the U.S. and the problem is becoming compounded. And it doesn't help things much when MY PRESIDENT that I VOTED FOR and still pray for goes and does things like - locking out conservative Senators who oppose citizenship for Illegals in his own party from a closed door meeting on how to solve the Illegal Alien crisis.
And if all of that weren't enough, let's not forget that the old Diabolical Dagger Society is still out there working to offend and attack people of values. This particular group believed that creating a cartoon of Jesus with an erection that it would somehow level the score against those of us who believed that the printing of offensive Muslim cartoons really was no big deal. (And a bit of self confession here... I'm not even sure that the idea that Jesus may have gotten an erection while on earth is offensive in and of itself. Saying he was a practicing homosexual is a different matter...)
