McCAIN PROTESTED OVER PROTECTING MARRIAGE?: It is a truly odd position to find himself being oppressed for his "stand on marriage." McCain voted against the Marriage Protection Amendment the last time it was brought to the Senate, has he changed his tune?
Maybe he has, consider who is now embracing him and who isn't.
The Senator who has seemed to take nearly perverse pleasure in opposing the President on most things outside the war. (Remember it was McCain who even provided some semi-obstruction in the debate over the judges - inserting himself into the equation as the big kahuna in the "Gang of 14.")
The last time the Marriage Protection Amendment came to the floor of the U.S. Senate McCain again stabbed traditional values family oriented voters in the back by voting against allowing the MPA to goe forward.
But now it appears McCain might have seen the light and is even paying a wee bit of a price for doing so.
Consider - McCain has been invited to deliver the commencement speech at Liberty University visa vie Dr. Falwell. Jerry doesn't invite people to that place of honor unless they are agreeable philosophically with Dr. Falwell.
But some would ask, has McCain truly seen the light on the matter or is he flying like a flag in the wind in that direction - only for today.
That's why this story becomes so intriguing... McCain has been opposed by some 9000 faculty, students, and family from delivering an address at the New School in Manhattan.
And what was the groups main focus in their opposition to McCain?
His support of his homestate's (Arizona) protection of marriage, AND, his appearance at Liberty University. (LOL...liberals are so tolerant!)
All that being said, McCain may be changing his stripes on the Marriage Protection Amendment - let's hope he does, it comes for a vote June 5-7, and we need every Senator we can get to be on board.
