On Monday, September 11th, we discussed a few of the many 'changes' in the past five years since "9/11" and the 'new normal' of daily terrorism.

  • Safety - The attitude that we are safe in Americacame falling to the ground with the Towers. For the first time since the 40's (WWII) and the 50's (Cold War with mutual assured destruction), citizens "feel"; or actually believe that safety is not certain...and fear is a daily reality.
  • Religions - Religion by itself is not a moral absolute. Some religions have incorporated 'religious beliefs' (tenets) that are extreme, fraudulent, unscriptural, hate filled, and now, ultimately evil. To make the statement, "I'm a religious person"; no longer conjures up a positive result. What religion, what belief system?
  • Enemy - An enemy that we cannot see. Until this point in America's history, we have always been able to physically see our enemy. Now, we sense the evil, but we cannot see the evil. No common comprehension as to 'how someone can be so evil', and living with the fact that this is the new normal for America. We all have an enemy that seeks to devour us.
  • Generational - The generation behind us will be forced to deal with this enmity and battle. The result of how successful (or unsuccessful) we are (are not) in the early days of the struggle will have direct consequences upon the next generation - and their generations that follow. Generation bondage or liberation is in our hands.
  • Supernatural - The ultimate 'need' of something bigger than a governmental "Super Power" and its military. To face this daily battle, the citizens of this country have come face to face with our mortality, and inability to defeat an ideology by governmental, military or diplomatic powers alone. This is a battle that causes man's constitutional liberty to fall on its knees before God. No political party, election campaign or political solution can provide ultimate deliverance.
  • Inner Honesty - The inner-most thoughts of each person. Those who consider themselves 'good', now see themselves in a different light, as finite. The 'head to the pillow' the 'unguarded moment', the self realization of my life being a simple 'wave tossed in the ocean' of creation, should force every citizen to think beyond tomorrow, and toward eternity.
  • Good v. Evil - Evil is a reality, and it comes from a place void of God. No common comprehension as to "how someone can be so evil" and knowing that it is a reality forces Americans to consider the consequences of such. On the flip side, the easy analysis between "good" and "evil"; the praise for those who offer the ultimate sacrifice to protect, defend and rescue others. (John 15:13 "No greater love hath any man, than he that lay down his life for a friend.")
  • Citizenship - We, as Christians, are people of dual citizenship. We are members of this great country, its community, laws and government - but more over, we are purchased members of another Kingdom. We are sojourners, passing through, hoping to seed our steps (lives) with the Gospel so Jesus can reach and welcome more members of a new Kingdom of hope and eternity.
