Your quotation of Galatians is good. We are indeed to live this life begun in the Spirit, along with the Spirit, and finishing with the Spirit. But even the most trivial sin (in our eyes only!) will quench Him and throw us immediately back into the flesh, fully in unrighteousness, and completely at the mercy of God.

Praise Him that at these times He does not consume us. But as a loving Father He instead chastises us to bring us back into fellowship.

Staying "right" with God requires no effort on my part, no work, other than "walking" in the Spirit, "abiding" in the vine, and "living" by the faith of the Son of God. Keeping the Law is simply a supernatural output of "Christ in you, the hope of glory."

Which part of the Law are we no longer required to keep? What part of it serves no useful purpose in the Christian's life? Read Romans 7. It is not just for sinners.

"You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? Have you suffered so much for nothing—if it really was for nothing? Does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you heard (Galatians 3:1-5)?" If you want to be a Galatian, and try to maintain your righteousness through human effort, be my guest. The Bible calls it foolishness. You may have something to boast about, but not before God (Romans 4:2). If you want to try and obey the law I want to encourage you to continue to do so. Because it hasn't finished its work in you. Perhaps, one day you will come to the end of yourself and finally accept Christ by faith.

This is where it gets exciting! The righteousness we gain at salvation is indeed by grace alone. The righteousness we maintain as we work out our salvation throughout our lifetime is by hard work. God does not stop us from sinning. He does not force us to live godly and pure. He does not make us obey. He does not make us willing. It is purely our personal will to obey what we know is true. The Holy Spirit uses the Law according to Romans 8 to convict the believer of unrighteousness. We are called to be moment by moment pure, unblemished, and holy, a Bride waiting for Jesus. Ephesians 5:25-27.

#1 Sunday is not the sabbath. #2 the Roman papal church is the first beast of the revelation. #3 the seventh day sabbath is a sign between God and his people #4 the sunday sabbath is a sign between Rome and her people #5 your master is whom you obey #6 only those who keep the commandments and faith in Jesus receive the seal of God #7 ALL the rest receive the mark of the beast #8 a second beast arose after the papal fall, USA, the papal wound was healed #9 the second beast will make an image of the first and force ALL to worship the papal beast #10 when this law is forced those who never kept the holy sabbath will find that there house was built on sand #11 those who obey the roman beast over Gods law will receive the mark of that beast. #12 those who receive this mark will not enter heaven and will ultimitaly be ashes upon the surface of the earth.

Even if Sabbath-keeping were the only law nobody could keep it. It is more than just "resting" on Saturday. Things like turning on lights, walking on the grass, folding a load of laundry, etc are all considered work. So, if you have done any of that, on any Saturday, at any time during your life, you have violated the Law. The Law is for the lost (1 Timothy 1). The law's purpose is to lead a lost person to Christ (Galatians 3). A believer is led by the Holy Spirit from within (Titus 2). Any attempt at life under the Law, any of it, is evidence that you have fallen from grace (Galatians 5). There is no law that could impart life (Galatians 3). And if righteousness could be gained through the law Christ died for nothing (Galatians 2). We don't enter God's rest by following an example of disobedience (Hebrews 4). When Christ finished His redemptive work, He sat down, because His work was done (Hebrews 1). Now, we are called to do the same and rest from our self-righteous works.

Saw that one comin'. The Law in question here is typically misunderstood. There are three to choose from: the Ten Commandments, the Mosaic, and the Pharisaic. In this case, we are talking only about the Ten, not the 613 Mosaic. Unfortunately there is not enough allowed space in the reply area to fully explain.

As Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law, and since He indwells us fully through His Spirit, so we too fulfill the Law. Or do we?

The Sabbath for a Christian is not a day of the week. The Sabbath rest we are called to enter into is a daily rest from our works of righteousness (Hebrews 4:9-11). The law is only a shadow of the realities found in Christ (Hebrews 10:1). While a Christian is free to try and observe the Sabbath, they must remember that they are obligating themselves to observe the entire law (Galatians 5:3). And I would say that Christians don't realize all the requirements keeping the Sabbath Day entails. Furthermore, their are 613 commandments under the law, not just the commandment to keep the Sabbath Day holy. And the penalty for violating just about every one of those commandments is death. The purpose of the law is to show an individual their sinfulness so they would turn to Christ by faith (Galatians 3:24-25). The Bible says that the righteous shall live by faith (Romans 1:17) and nobody is declared righteous by observing the law (Romans 3:20). God is not impressed despite how it makes one feel.

Thank you for an article with many good suggestions and advice on what to do/not do on the Sabbath. I'm curious to know how you made the transition of days from when you lived in Israel then back to the US. Israel still observes the Biblical Sabbath while in the US we have moved it to the Lord's Day.

In my upcoming book, "Christian Mythology" I discuss the truth and myth about the Sabbath.

Many believe that a saved person does not have to keep the Ten Commandments anymore. The Scripture used to support this is usually Romans 6:14-15. Does this indeed mean that we no longer have to keep the Sabbath?

The claim is that the Sabbath was replaced by the Lord’s day. This whole myth is shrouded by historical church doctrine (not God’s Word) surrounding the factual resurrection of Jesus on the third day. It all hinges on God's timetable established in Genesis 1:1-5. This timetable never changes throughout the Bible. It is critical to all eschatological events.

LeAnne's article is just what I needed to hear. It is great to read that there are others out there who are trying to follow God's wise advice. I am also trying to rediscover the meaning and purpose of the Sabbath for myself and anyone who will listen. God made the appointment with us on the seventh day of creation. It is available as a gift to all believers in the God of creation.

The tact of this article was great! It is refreshing to hear a viewpoint that God wants what is best for us and these "commandments" are for our benefit. LeAnne and her family have rediscovered what they read about and learned growing up, but are now applying to their own lives. Application is the key to getting the benefits of the teaching in the Bible.
