Preaching at a Haiti fishing wharf netted more than 5,000 conversions. Shad Williams, a Southern Baptist evangelist, preached in the outreach, hosted by churches in Port de Paix July 5-9, according to Williams' ministry.

...The 2,000 counselors were overworked as more than 75 percent of the audience at each service indicated decisions to become Christians, Williams said. Crowds totaled 7,500, and 5,400 professed faith in Christ, he said.

...Williams said he "made it very clear that we were asking for first time decisions," and people continued to surge forward seeking prayer and counseling. People are desperate for good news in Haiti, where poverty and disease are rampant, he said. Voodoo has been proclaimed the national religion and many Christian churches mix pagan practices, according to news reports.
