POINT OF IMPACT: It began as a Bible study for teenagers in her living room. Before long the group grew and began meeting in a barn. Today Precept Ministries, founded by Kay Arthur and her husband, Jack (who is president), has grown into an international adult Bible study ministry (emphasizing an inductive method of study) with 12,000 study groups in 114 countries. "Many women first come to Precept for the fellowship of other women," explains one participant. "But once they're exposed to what they can learn from the Word of God, they begin to respond and obey." Arthur is the author of Precept upon Precept Inductive Bible studies and more than 36 books, including Israel My Beloved and As Silver Refined. She has more than 4 million books in print. She hosts the national television program, "How Can I Live?", a daily radio program, "Precept with Kay Arthur," and a weekly call-in program, "Precept LIVE with Kay and Jan."

Her worldwide Bible studies began in a barn.

BEHIND THE SCENES: Kay Arthur, 66, first trained as a nurse and has been a businesswoman and a missionary. She has always had a special interest in Israel, where she spends time studying every year. Kay writes and teaches with a rare combination of authority and compassion. She and Jack live in Tennessee. They are the parents of three sons and have nine grandchildren.
