Tuesday's Topical Menu of Discussion

PRESIDENT BUSH: WE HAVE UNFINISHED BUSINESS A USA Today headline: Bush's reversal of fortune: Iraq's up, economy's down. (USA Today) In the case that you missed it last night, here is the text of President Bush's speech - his last State of the Union Address as President of the United States. (CBS News)

NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WOMEN: SENATOR KENNEDY BETRAYED US...For backing Senator Obama over Senator Hillary. They issued this statement: “Women have forgiven Kennedy, stuck up for him, stood by him, hushed the fact that he was late in his support of Title IX, the ERA, the Family Leave and Medical Act to name a few. And now the greatest betrayal! We are repaid with his abandonment!  He’s picked the new guy over us. He’s joined the list of progressive white men who can’t or won’t handle the prospect of a woman president who is Hillary Clinton."  (CNN) Now there’s video of Al Sharpton telling Bill Clinton “to just be quiet…there’s a time to shut up and I think that time has come.” (The View) Should woman attack Senator Kennedy because he didn't vote for a woman? Are we this sophomoric in politics today, that you have to vote for people because of sex or race loyal issues? What if Senator Kennedy 'believes' that Obama is better for woman than Senator Clinton, isn't this possible? Or, does it take a woman to represent womens issues politically in America?

TALK SHOW HOSTS NOT THRILLED WITH MCCAIN AP story quotes my personal friends Hugh Hewitt and Michael Medved, who I personally respect and who disagree in stark contrasts over this primary journey and their responsibilities as talk show hosts. (Townhall) Senator McCain leads in California and New York as voters like his experience. (Gallup) George Will compared McCain’s politics to that of the Clintons. (Townhall) We'll address this today on the show; Do you want your talk show hosts opinion on the issues, or do you want him/her to out-right tell you who you should vote for? I'm not asking for the return of the Fairness Doctrine here, but I'm seeing more and more radio listeners asking for the issues, the facts and the content...but not an outright 'on-air', daily endorsement campaign.

CELEBRITIES PICKING UP “FOREIGN ACCENT SYNDROME” From the story…possibly at work here is the mystifying American notion that a British accent connotes more intelligence and culture than a standard American accent — even the working-class accents that might make the British themselves try to sound like Russell Crowe. "Somehow a British accent conveys some sort of higher status," so adopting one can make the insecure feel better, especially performers, Min says. "They change their hair, they change their shoes, and if you're a celebrity of a certain type, you might change the way you speak." USA Today

Maybe I'll do today's show with an accent and see if you believe I'm more intelligent with, or without, the additional voice baggage. (I think I'll use a Midwestern accent for today's show.)
