A "convicted" pedophile priest is being allowed to sing in a choir with children at one of Brisbane's most distinguished Anglican churches. Robert Francis Sharwood, who was released from jail three months ago after serving a year for sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy, sang in the third row of the Holy Trinity Church choir in Fortitude Valley yesterday. A 14-year-old and 16-year-old girl sang in the front, while infants and children, including young boys, were present in the congregation. Courier Mail News
Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee met with prominent evangelical supporter Dr. James Dobson in a one-hour close-door meeting while in Colorado for a paid speaking event Friday. The two Christian leaders, who have been friends for 14 years, refused to disclose the specifics of their discussion, revealing only that it was an informal “personal meeting.” Dobson had endorsed Huckabee two weeks ago after former Republican candidate Mitt Romney suspended his campaign. “This was a long-planned private conversation between two friends and Dr. Dobson wanted to keep it that way,” said Gary Schneeberger, a Dobson spokesman, according to The Associated Press. “It’s certainly not meant to temper his support of the governor.” The Christian Post
I'll say it again, "I like Mike". He has opened the dialog inside of the Republican Party. He is a conservative, but not angry about it. He agrees on solid ideas and legislation that make sense. He wants to move things forward, and not repeat the same divisions of the past. I think Huckabee is a blessing for the party and for Evangelical voters. He is teaching us to be inclusive and not exclusive of others. This is Jesus stuff that Huckabee is offering and we need to support him in his efforts.
Apologia315.com's T-shirts were recently featured in an edition of Christian Retailing magazine and have been purchased by numerous individuals and purchased by churches to give away as gifts and as fund raisers. When Brian Horvath set out to make apologetics relevant in new ways, he didn't anticipate how people would take his T-shirt line and imagine their own ways to apply them. A senior theology teacher at a Christian high school in Michigan, Brian anticipated that the shirts would be used primarily by young people wanting to evangelize and learn more about the foundations of their faith. I like t-shirts more than bumper stickers, but I'm always concerned about 'shouting at people' with slogans, phrases and words in print. Christians needs to be about speaking with people, not at people. I'm always concerned when we opt for th passive means to relate. Yet, some of these t-shirts are clever and thought provoking, good.
By 2012, as many as 21 million working poor may have newly-acquired life, health and crop insurance. This is all possible because of a $24.2 million grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to Opportunity International. The grant will enable Opportunity's subsidiary, the Micro Insurance Agency, to go into 11 new countries within Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Mission Network News Once again, I like the 'do-gooder' people and I believe Jesus wants us to cozy up to them and shine Him. They are being 'used' by God and they don't know it, "He lays up the wealth of the worldly for righteousness..." (Hogue Paraphrase Version)
Sen. Barack Obama's refusal to wear an American flag lapel pin along with a photo of him not putting his hand over his heart during the National Anthem led conservatives on Internet and in the media to question his patriotism. Now Obama's wife, Michelle, has drawn their ire, too, for saying recently that she's really proud of her country for the first time in her adult life. Conservative consultants say that combined, the cases could be an issue for Obama in the general election if he wins the nomination, especially as he runs against Vietnam war hero Sen. John McCain. One News Now This may present a problem for Barak Obama during the race against John McCain.
The estate of Ric Weiland, a high school classmate of Microsoft Corp. founders Bill Gates and Paul Allen and one of the first five people to work at the software giant, has left $65 million to homosexual rights and HIV/AIDS organizations. Here is the sad note: Weiland donated tens of millions to various organizations - from homosexual rights groups to environmental and education organizations - before he died in 2006. He committed suicide at age 53 after a long battle with depression. Survivors include his partner, Mike Schaefer. One News Now
