About Dr. Warren Throckmorton

Warren Throckmorton, PhD is Associate Professor of Psychology and Fellow for Psychology and Public Policy at Grove City College (PA). He is the producer of the critically acclaimed documentary, I Do Exist, regarding sexual orientation. His academic articles have been published by journals of the American Psychological Association and he is past president of the American Mental Health Counselors Association. How about the Golden Rule Day?

The Day of Silence is looming once again in American schools with concerns expressed from social conservatives about adult gay identity politics intruding into the schools. The Day of Silence is sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) to oppose bullying and harassement of students who identify as gay, lesbian or bisexual. As occurred last year, some conservative groups are calling on parents to keep their kids at home on the Day of Silence (April 25 in most places).

I have a different idea. How about considering this day an opportunity to promote treating others the way you want to be treated? Perhaps kids could go to school equipped with index cards with the following pledge: 

I pledge to treat others the way I want to be treated. Will you agree with me to treat each other in this way?

"Do to others as you would have them do to you." (Luke 6:31). 

It seems to me that Christian kids could be leading the way with a pledge to keep the Golden Rule.

Could this approach be more productive for the Good News than staying home?
