I SOMETIMES WRITE COLUMNS: NYC STOP THE WHINING!

1:22pm EST
MY FRIEND HUGH HEWITT WEIGHS IN: Even my good friend Hugh Hewitt has taken the side of the whiners . I'm a little surprised at this, but let's look at why Homeland Security had to make cuts in the allocation of city monies to be used on Homeland Security projects.

As I lay out the case in my new column  today, it is important to understand the rationale behind why New York saw a reduction in actual dollars coming to the city from the Department of Homeland Security.

1. Five years removed from 9/11 - the start-up capital needed to put security systems in place should not still be the size they originally were. (i.e. it costs more money to build a weapon, HQ, or vehicle - than it does to maintain it.)
2. There was more money requested than DHS had to allocate.
3. There is no magical well, where funds come from.
4. New York ranked LOW in terms of programming effectiveness in its anti-terrorism programs.
5. NYC still got more money than most of the rest of the cities combined.
6. NYC got $40 million more than Los Angeles, and arguably more difficult landscape to secure...
7. Other cities DO HAVE large population gathering points where terror attacks could be imagined, and executed...
8. It is a sign of Northeastern snobbishness and ingratitude to expect the rest of the country to be vulnerable...
9. The New York Spirit is one that says, "we will do more to protect ourselves." rather than depending on the nation to take care of us...
10. I don't much trust the ability of most of the publicly elected leaders of NYC to refrain from cronism and other forms of graft that lead to why the city demands more and more federal dollars each year...

So there you go Hugh - 10 solid reasons why New Yorkers should shut off the whining and get back to doing their job of working hard for the people of New York!
