The Passion of the Christ remains one of the most celebrated and controversial movies in existence today. When it was first released in 2004, the movie was a blockbuster success which garnered millions of dollars worldwide. The film was nominated for three Oscars and praised by religious audiences for its brutal depiction of Christ’s crucifixion. However, the film also received its share of negative feedback. Many critics felt the movie was overly violent, and some even accused it of antisemitism.

For Jim Caviezel, the actor who portrayed Jesus, The Passion of the Christ allegedly caused him to be rejected from a number of future roles. According to the Christian Today, the actor was turned down from later projects due to The Passion’s controversy. However, Caviezel himself has no regrets, stating that he believes God intended for him to play the role of Jesus. The good news is that Caviezel is seeing a resurgence in his career, having appeared in the hit TV show Person of Interest and starring in the faith-and-football movie, When the Game Stands Tall.

It’s unknown if Caviezel will return for the upcoming The Passion of the Christ sequel, but the actor has expressed his interest in reprising the role if offered.
