Leonardo DiCaprio is Producing a Captain Planet Movie

Academy Award-winning actor, Leonardo DiCaprio, has always been a passionate advocate for the environment, and it appears his next project will be focused on just that. According to reports in Vulture and Relevant Magazine, DiCaprio is teaming up with Paramount Pictures in hopes of rebooting Captain Planet. The 90’s superhero cartoon is best remembered for its heavy themes of recycling and conservationism, as well as some incredibly campy storytelling. The series focuses on a group of international children who are gifted with magic rings which allow them to control the elements and fight pollution. When their powers combine, they summon a blue-skinned superman named “Captain Planet” who helps the children against such eco-villains as poachers and shady businessmen.

Early reports state the project is still in its formative stage, and DiCaprio’s own production company, Appian Way, may have a hand in the creation. While the script rights are still pending, the news has sent a fresh wave of nostalgia through the internet. Rumors of whether DiCaprio himself will play the role of Captain Planet are still being explored (though deeply hoped for).
