Television is constantly working to expand the scope of our storytelling, introducing viewers to new and fascinating points of view. One such example would be the upcoming project Atypical, a coming-of-age drama set to premier on Netflix. According to reports from Relevant Magazine and Variety, Atypical will follow the 18-year-old Sam (played here by Keir Gilchrist) as he searches for love and identity in modern culture. So what’s the catch? Sam also happens to be autistic, giving him a unique perception of the world, but also burdening him with immense social stigma.
Atypical will likely join new dramas Speechless and This is Us in exploring unconventional families dealing with social issues. The series was created by Robia Rashid, whose impressive credits include such series as The Goldbergs and How I Met Your Mother. As of this moment, Atypical will likely release on Netflix in fall of 2017.
