Michael Bloomberg

Michael Bloomberg must be pretty smart.

You can’t be dumb and make a billion dollars, a feat he has accomplished 33 times over. He is the 11th-richest person in America and the 16th-wealthiest person in the world. He also served as a mayor New York City for three terms. His Wikipedia entry contains a long list of his accomplishments.

But evidently you can be a billionaire and be clueless. This is what he said in a recent interview:

“I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.”

Mr. Bloomberg may be a billionaire, but he is clueless about going to heaven. He’s only right about one thing: “It’s not even close.” He’s not as good as he thinks he is, and he’s a much greater sinner than he has imagined. But he speaks for many people who think they can earn their way into heaven.

Wrong.

The only way to heaven is to admit you don’t deserve to go there, and to confess that because of your sin you deserve hell, and to cast yourself on the mercy of Jesus who loved you and died for you and paid the price for your sin when he died on the cross.

We can see the difference very clearly in Romans 4:4-5.

Verse 4: "Now to the one who works, pay is not considered as a gift, but as something owed.” That’s the Bloomberg plan.

Verse 5: But to the one who does not work, but believes on Him who declares the ungodly to be righteous, his faith is credited for righteousness.” That’s God’s plan.

So let me ask it this way:

Are you following the Bloomberg Plan or God’s Plan?
You can’t follow them both.
