D. L Moody, Billy Sunday, Billy Graham

You never know what one person can do.

Here’s a case in point:

In 1855 a Sunday School teacher named Edward Kimball led a Boston shoe clerk to Christ. That clerk, D. L. Moody, became an evangelist.

In the late 1870s a young man named J. Wilbur Chapman attended a meeting where D. L. Moody preached. After the meeting he received counseling from Moody that enabled him to find assurance of salvation.

In the 1890s J. Wilbur Chapman employed a former baseball player named Billy Sunday to help him organize evangelistic campaigns.

In 1924 Billy Sunday held a massive evangelistic campaign in Charlotte, North Carolina. After he left town, a group of supporters started an organization to maintain the work of evangelism.

In 1934 that group of laymen invited an evangelist named Mordecai Ham to lead a tent revival in Charlotte. One night a teenager named Billy Graham came forward to accept Christ as his Savior.

Billy Graham has preached the Good News of Jesus to more people than anyone else in history. Last Thursday night, as he celebrated his 95th birthday, his TV special on the cross of Christ was seen by millions of people.

What started with Edward Kimball 158 years ago . . .
Led to the ministry of D. L. Moody . . .
Whose counsel helped J. Wilbur Chapman find assurance of salvation . . .
Who hired an ex-baseball player named Billy Sunday . . .
Whose impact led to to a tent revival . . .
Which resulted in the conversion of Billy Graham . . .
Who preached through TV and the Internet to millions last week.

Don’t ever say you don’t matter.
Don’t give up on yourself.
Don’t think you have no influence.

Edward Kimball never heard of Billy Graham.
He never lived to see the true impact of his life.

Just be faithful.
Let God take care of everything else.

One person yielded to God can change the world.
