Ms. Maisch and The Non Sequitur

In the wake of the Arizona shootings where Congresswoman Giffords was gunned down along with Federal Judge John Roll and 16 others Patricia Maisch a woman who actually helped subdue the shooter was interviewed.  In her response Ms. Maisch was clearly shocked by the cold hatred of Jared Loughner and was searching for an explanation for his moral barbarism.  Her conclusion:  "the extreme right, reporters, radio and TV have added to this problem, and I'm just hoping that that will change because of this…that the Republicans will stop… I think they've just gone over the top. I think the extreme right has gone too far."

Now here is what people should be asking Ms. Maisch and the host of other pundits who are parroting this party line…

Is there any evidence to show such a connection between Loughner's ideas and those of Conservatives or is this, yet, another example of the choir of the Left signing a tune of faulty reasoning - of what we know from freshman level logic as a non-sequitur - a fallacy of non-connection?

Is it possible that Ms. Maisch with one finger point out in accusation is guilty of having the rest pointing back at herself - Accusing others of vitriol, hate and bigotry while at the same time being vitriolic, unloving and overtly biased?  While she bemoans the labeling employed by the Right doesn't Ms. Maisch accuse the Right by using the labels employed by the Left!

And a final question: Does anyone, Ms Maisch and Keith Olbermann included, really think we can put down the lies of politics by elevating the lies of politicians so thoughtlessly?

Ideas matter.  Clear thinking matters.  Labels, name-calling and non-sequiturs do not lead to truth and understanding they only lead to further deception, frustration and distrust.
