Extinct Baptists and Gas Ministries

The Rev. Johnny M. Hunt, the pastor of an Atlanta area mega-church, was elected yesterday as president of the Southern Baptist Convention , and will take over as head of the nation's largest Protestant denomination as it is struggling with declining membership and decreasing number of baptisms. A Muslim student who sued because his public high school graduation ceremony was held in a Baptist church has received an apology from Newark's school district and assurances that it will not hold future events in houses of worship. CNS Network

The John McCain campaign says it is working on a meeting with Billy Graham. Word that McCain had turned down such a meeting shot through evangelical circles in recent hours. But the McCain camp says it's untrue and that it's dealing directly with Franklin Graham to make it happen. Dallas Morning News

The Kings' fix "could" damage the 'New Arena' deal. The more we focus on the fix, the more it erodes the fringe support that will be needed to pass any type of increase in arena funding that the builders might need from the public. Ban to hard on the NBA and Stern right now, and we might lose the "deal" on the table for Cal-EXPO and a new arena.

The new San Quentin death row prison build-out is expensive. $395 million to build the "needed" new prison, which equates a single prison cell to cost over $515,000. That's more than 75% of the homes in Northern California would cost to build today. What's included in the $515K cell room?

July 1st is "hands-free only" for adults, and "no cell calls" for under 18-year-old drivers.
