David, Moses and Jesus arrive in Boxes to Children

Tonight we offer our Friday Feature called: “The Council of Many”

On Friday’s I occasionally do a segment called “The Council of Many” (borrowed from many sources; my email files, TV and the marketplace conversations I have each day) on the show. In asking others there is wisdom. Here are a couple of ideas for tonight’s show:

“…Eric, you talk about ‘love’ for sinners on your show; If a gay minister was invited to your church to preach would you verbally protest? Reports show that the world's first openly gay Anglican Bishop was heckled during his message at a church in England recently. As the Bishop began, a young, long haired man clutching a motorcycle helmet, began to speak out his more conservative views. Would you have done the same or would have just sat quietly? Would you have walked out? Is there a time and a place for a public challenge and do you feel the time has finally come or do you feel that there are more appropriate ways to protest? What would YOU do, Eric?…”

“…Mr. Hogue we love your show…recently our church has decided to ‘shut down’ for the summer. Due to gas prices, and the busy schedule of ‘kids, families and summer vacations’, we have decided to pause all ministries and activities and encourage our members to meet with a small group and their own neighborhood. If your church decided to close in the summer, how would you react? Some feel that the community would see this as God taking holidays and that “ministry” should go on. After all, many people are dependant on the church. Others feel that taking a summer break would give a chance for volunteers to recharge and maybe get more involved with their neighbors. If you think this is such a good idea, why do very few churches actually close for “holidays”?…”

And here is one I created from the news today…

Same-sex divorce; brings interesting question for church…'They've given us no choice but to be married forever,' says a Rhode Island woman. Her state doesn't recognize gay marriage, and the state where she was wed limits divorces to residents. Los Angeles Times

OK, here is a thought today; you have a Gay Couple (married) attend your church (because we are loving and reaching toward gay individuals), they hear Jesus’ message of salvation and relationship and come to faith in Him. In a few months they are convicted about their “marriage”…should you encourage and support a “divorce” in this case? What if they have adopted children? Do you dissolve a ‘family atmosphere” for the boy, or girl, by encouraging a divorce? I thought divorce was only in cases of adultery, abuse and abandonment?

“The Council of Many” on tonight’s show. OK, back to today’s news stories.

Judge makes parents change daughter’s stupid name…

"The court is profoundly concerned about the very poor judgment which this child's parents have shown in choosing this name," he wrote. "It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap, unnecessarily." All this while the soap star from General Hospital defends his decision to name his son Peanut. Seattle Mariners baseball stadium has banned peanuts and cracker jacks…

Let’s change the song today…the new future of America’s great pastime: “Buy me some tofu and mineral water….” From the story: “If you're allergic to peanuts Seattle's Safeco Field will be the place to be on Aug. 5 and Sept. 9. The stadium staff there is planning to make two sections "peanut-controlled" zones, cleaning each before the game and banning the sale of peanuts at nearby concession stands so those afflicted by the food allergy can watch the game without worry." Obama PAC buys time to message on Focus on the Family…

Focus on the Family is speaking out against a new pro-Obama radio ad airing on Christian radio. The ad calls for "a better Christian witness in politics." The new liberal political action committee Matthew 25 is running pro-Barack Obama ads on Christian radio. Salem Radio affiliate KBIQ 102.7 FM in Colorado Springs, Colorado - home to Focus on the Family - aired an ad that came in response to Dr. James Dobson’s recent criticism of the presidential candidate's theological views. Thursday's outcry from state workers over pay may be just what governor wanted…

State workers chanted Thursday outside the Capitol to assail Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's plans to pay 200,000 state employees the federal minimum wage until a budget is signed, providing some of the most compelling budget-related scenes of angry Californians this year. It may have been what the governor wanted all along, even if they shouted his name in disgust. Sacramento Bee

Prop. 8 (No Same-Sex Marriage) backers take fight to kindergarten…

San Francisco Chronicle

PG&E warns its bills could soar this winter…

Oil prices jumped to historic highs this year. Gasoline, too. Now electricity prices could be headed up. Pacific Gas and Electric Co. warned Thursday that its electricity rates could rise 4.4 percent, on average, in October and another 11 percent in January - the result of high prices for the natural gas that fuels California's power plants. Other utilities across the country have issued similar warnings. San Francisco Chronicle Great, this is all we need now!

State's 'digital divide' persists; is Internet a ‘must have’ for success…?

The use of computers and the Internet by Latinos and low-income Californians continues to lag behind other groups, according to a survey released Thursday by the Public Policy Institute of California. Slightly less than half of Latinos surveyed have home computers, compared to rates of 79 percent and above among black, Asian and white Californians, the survey found. San Jose Mercury
