World Day of Prayer for Uganda

A bill is pending in the Ugandan parliament to impose the death penalty or life in prison on homosexual behavior. Even knowing a homosexual would require a report to the police or risk jail for failing to report. The bill has strong backing among Christians there and would make Uganda the only predominantly Christian nation to impose the death penalty and restrict freedom of speech and assembly as this bill would. Many US Christians believe this hurts our witness there and around the world. Today many are praying that the bill would be removed.

Adding D to ABC: How a Proposed Ban on Homosexuality in Uganda Will Undo AIDS Progress

George W. Bush instigated the President's Emergency Relief Plan for AIDS Relief in 2003. In Uganda, the US has spent 1.2 billion dollars since 2004. It has worked well according to a recent academic study, saving an estimated million lives. However, that progress may be undone by a recent proposal in Uganda to impose the death penalty on certain homosexual behaviors. Parents would have to report homosexual children to authorities; pastors would need to turn in congregants.

This op-ed appeared in today's Independent, a news service in Uganda. I am arguing against the passage of the proposed Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2009.

Should American Christians Care about Gays in Uganda?

Christians in Uganda are leading an effort to impose the death penalty on certain homosexual behaviors. Should American Christians care? I argue that we should care and do something about it.

PFOX wants you to put this book in libraries...

At least, I think Alfie's Home is the book meant by the following PFOX (Parents and Friends of Exgays) news release:
"Ex-gay books are also not made available in many community public libraries," said Griggs. "The libraries in West Bend and Beaver Dam, Wisconsin will not accept our donation of an ex-gay book for children, although these libraries circulate several picture books with gay themes for children."
