I want to tell you about a new movie - and a modern-day hero.

Kathy DiFiore is the head of a network of shelters for pregnant teens in New Jersey. Kathy has spent the past 35 years “in the trenches.” Her five shelters are run 100 percent on donations, and have saved more than 20,000 babies.

But DiFiore’s work goes beyond saving preborn children – she also helps their moms. Several Sources Shelters provide teen moms with childcare support, education and assistance programs. It’s important, valuable work – but usually not the stuff Hollywood movies are made of.

Until now.

“Gimme Shelter” is the most pro-life movie to come out of Hollywood in years. It showcases DiFiore’s work by highlighting the based-on-a-true-story of a pregnant 16-year-old girl who chooses life on the streets over aborting the child she carries.

The film stars an impressive line-up of stars: Vanessa Hudgens, James Earl Jones, Rosario Dawson, Brendan Fraser, and Ann Dowd.

Parents will want to know it’s a gritty story that earns its PG-13 rating. (Plugged In goes more into the specifics in its review.) However, as you watch the film, you realize the rawness is needed to convey the harsh reality many of these teen girls facing unexpected pregnancies must endure. It also serves to show the relief they must feel when they finally arrive at DiFiore’s shelter – the first real home many of them have ever had.

You can read more about DiFiore, her calling to serve teen moms and “Gimme Shelter” in an interview with her featured in the January/February edition of Focus’ Citizen magazine. I’ll leave you with a trailer from the movie. (Click here to watch the clip from a browser), (Click here to watch the clip from a mobile device).
