Focus on the Family’s first feature-length film, “Irreplaceable” will debut in a one-night theatrical event in more than 700 cinemas nationwide on May 6. I want to share a clip from the movie that really sets up what the documentary is all about.

This clip features author and cultural commentator Eric Metaxas talking about two different views of family – and his words drives deep into the heart of the question, “What is family?”

(If you’re visiting the blog from a mobile device, you can watch the clip from our YouTube channel.)

As “Irreplaceable” host Tim Sisarich explains during the trailer, “Every day in the media, the life choices of my neighbors, even in public policy, I seem to be told that I’ve got it wrong.”

More and more, it seems like vastly different views of family are coming head-to-head in the culture. By talking with renowned experts like Eric Metaxas, “Irreplaceable” looks into these different approaches to family and then examines the reasons why we see so much brokenness around us.

What sets “Irreplaceable” part, however, is that we don’t stop there. It’s easy to point out what’s wrong with family – it’s harder to lay out some ways we can help solve what’s going wrong. But giving a better vision for family is precisely what “Irreplaceable” does – so although it’s a sobering film in some ways, you will eventually leave the theater challenged and filled with hope.

Dr. Tony Evans, president of The Urban Alternative and senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, said this of “The Family Project,” our 12-DVD small group experience which “Irreplaceable” helps introduce:

“Focus on the Family has given us a unique resource to strengthen, empower and support the family as the Creator designed it to be.  This project is sure to give you the tools you need to build the family God desires you to have.”

Dr. Evans captures in a few words what was our hope and vision here at Focus on the Family as we went into this immense project of producing both a film and a DVD-based curriculum.
