I Think I'm Turning Japanese

I think I'm turning Japanese because I can't stop looking at these original paintings that came into the thrift store yesterday. (Click either painting to enlarge: clicking it twice will make it super-large.)

I don't think they were supposed to be donated. Each painting was covered with a piece of tissue, and they were laid between two pieces of thick cardboard taped together. The tissue and cardboard were cut exactly to size. On the back of the package, written in capitals and underlined twice, was the word, "FRAME!".  The paintings are about 12 x 14 inches. I snapped these pictures at the thrift store; they barely do justice to the almost blinding vibrancy of the colors.

You can tell they're original works of art by looking at the backs of the sheets and seeing where the colors have bled through. I have no idea what medium they're in: it looks like ink, really, it's so bright.

I don't know anything about Japanese art. Do you? Can anyone even begin to tell us anything about these? All I know is they look, of course, like the classic Japanese woodblock prints that you always ogle at when you see them in museums or galleries.

But really, I have no idea. I don't know who did them, or when---or what that writing is you so often see on the side of Asian prints and paintings. Help, Asian art lovers? Or Asian art lovers you know to whom you could forward this post? THANKS!
