Millennials Say Smartphones More Important Than Deodorant

The Bank of America Trends in Consumer Mobility report finds that millennials believe that their smartphones are more important than their deodorant.

The study found that only 87 percent of millennials said their deodorant was essential to them, while 93 percent of those interviewed said a smartphone was “very” or “somewhat” important.

Older adults were slightly less smelly in their choices, with smartphones and deodorant ranking equally in their lives at 91 percent.

Ninety-one percent of millennials value their toothbrushes as a daily importance, while 95% of older adults said their toothbrushes were important.

Is comparing smartphones to deodorant like comparing apples to oranges? Perhaps, but one employment expert suggests that millennials' values may go beyond smelling bad, to playing a factor in why so many are jobless. "If people can smell you before they see you, you aren't getting the job," said Susan RoaAne, author of How to Work a Room, a guide on what to do to land a job.
