Day 7- A Prayer for our Husbands

My husband and I have been married 26 years this November. I can honestly say that I love him more today than I did the day I married him.

It hasn't always been easy.  I mean, there have been some real hard times. We have gone through seasons when I didn't think we were going to make it. During one particularly hard time, a dear friend encouraged me to pray for my husband. I bristled at the thought. Actually, I more than bristled. I might have even laughed! But I agreed to try. In the beginning my prayers felt mechanical and I think I said them through clenched teeth. But in the midst of days and days of praying for him, God changed me. (Didn't know I needed it, by the way.) And He eventually changed the heart of my husband.

So don't despair. And even if you're in the middle of utter disaster, remember, God is faithful.

Father, bless this man You have so graciously given me. Make him know Your ways. Teach him Your paths. Lead him in Your truth and teach him for You are the God of his salvation; for You he waits all the day long. (Ps.25:4-5)

Give him a heart for You, like David. Deal bountifully with him, that he may live and keep Your word. Open his eyes that he may see wondrous things in Your law. He is a sojourner on this earth; hide not Your commandments from him. (Ps.119:17-19) Incline his heart to Your testimonies and not to selfish gain! Turn his eyes from looking at worthless things; and give him life in Your ways. (Ps.119:36-37)

Teach my husband to number his days that he may gain a heart of wisdom. Satisfy him each morning with Your steadfast love, that he may rejoice and be glad all his days. (Ps.90:12,14) Let Your work be shown to him and Your glorious power to our children. Let Your favor be upon my husband, and establish the work of his hands upon us. (Ps.90:16-17)

Let his fountain be blessed and may he rejoice in the wife of his youth.(Prov.5:18) O Lord, blow upon the garden of our marriage and let its spices flow. (Song.4:16) Let his children obey him in everything for this pleases You. Let my husband not provoke our children, lest they become discouraged. (Col.3:20-21)

Establish his steps as he delights in Your way, though he falls, he shall not be cast headlong, for You uphold his hand. (Ps.37:23-24) I pray that You would give him gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that he may be called an oak of righteousness, a planting of the Lord that You, O God, may be glorified. (Is. 61:3)

Keep my dear husband, as the apple of Your eye and hide him in the shadow of Your wings.(Ps.17:8) In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
