I am part of that generation and I find that my generation wants to pick and choose which scriptures to follow. They want to still have sex whenever they want, get drunk and party all they want and basically follow the rules they want not what God wants.

I agree completely. I have been a Christian my whole life and I have never experienced the kind of church that I experience now. The politics of the past cannot compare to the politics of today. We preach "gift use" but then control, as if God, the particulars of that gift. Church has become selfish - a stage for our careers. It should be outward focused and selfless. How many people does it take to run a church team? Are those roles necessary enough to pay what they pay? Are we tithing to be entertained? I desire true fellowship within the context of service outside the walls of the church.

I also agree mostly with the article. I am 36 and I have been one of the christians this articles talks about. I know that I have always been a christian during this time but I believe I was mislead.I finally changed my views. I didnt see Jesus getting caught up in politics trying to legislate morality. I didnt see him picketing corrupt groups of poeple or ideas. He lived in a very corrupt time. He met poeple right where they were at.The world didnt hate Jesus like a lot of our culture hates the church. Its because he chose to lead poeple through the life he lived and not bully his way in through politics or legislation. Philip Yancey said in a book "when it becomes them against us grace is lost and I think he is right. Great article. Cya

The fact that younger kids say the church is judgemental, is being judgemental itself. The fact is they dont want to hear Gods word as it is written in the Holy Bible they just want to live life as they see fit and forget what God's word actually says. They want to interpret it to fit their lifestyle. To me, it is a matter of obedience. They want the good things from the Bible, as long as they dont have to be obedient, but if its something they have to work for, forget it. And standing for God's truth, is work.

As a teacher in a Christian high school I hear these criticisms all the time. Unfortunately, those who level these shots at the "church" are often as guilty as those whom they are criticizing. I see teens who want nothing to do with the church because it is "hypocritical and judgmental" who have little else on their minds but the next fashion statement and CD from the newest band. I would love nothing more than to witness a revolution in which the Church (capital C) gets out of the church building and goes among the needy - oh, wait - most of the organizations that do a lot of the work with the needy are Christian. They just don't get the publicity that the "televangelists" get. Maybe we just need better PR people.

I must say that this is an excellent and on time article. I am a 26 year old female and I thought that i was the only one feeling this way about the church. I know that the church is to be esteemed to a degree because it is an institution created for and by Jesus himself, but on the other hand i myself am really frustrated with the church as we know it today. To many times i have seen men and women of God who have been portraying this false sense of salvation. i dont completely understand another persons motives for only God know the heart of man, but salvation is about something more than being the next big preacher, or the most sought out speaker. this is the tragic chain that we have seen going on these days. So instead of working toward a more indepth relationship with Christ we have christians who are working on being the next best televangelist(by the way where is that word found in the bible), but all this to say that the First love has somehow been forgot about! Great article!
